Using OmmWriter Dana.

I have tried several writing apps in Mac. I used to use WriteRoom, which provides a black screen and makes me focus on the text that I’m writing. Later I tried SimpleNote which I can sync all data with my Mac and iOS devices. I used the SimpleNote app on iPhone and iPad. Used the SimpleNote web app with full screen Safari on Mac.

Recently, @davidwieland, my twitter friend, suggested me to try the OmmWriter Dana writing application. It offers both free version and paid version.

The OmmWriter provides similar focus environment that WriteRoom does. It hides all your stuff with a background and what you need to do is focusing on the text in front of you. It creates an uncluttered environment then I only have text in mind. I do not see the menu bar; I do not see the dock icons which may bounce sometimes; I do not see the time so I forget about future and past. I’m just getting focus at present with my article. Nothing more.

Wait, there is something more. Some special things.

OmmWriter provides several clean backgrounds to help writer focus. There is pure white scene, grey scene and more. Accomplish the clean background are some subtle comfortable background music. The clean background scene and music calm me down and my flow cannot stop. My fingers just keep typing.

One more special thing with the typing. OmmWriter provides several sound effects when you type. I suddenly remember the typewriter which triggers every “click” sounds clearly when typing. I can choose for several sound effects in this writer and the typing sounds really encourage me to type and type. Yes, what I want to do now is typing and triggering the wonderful calm sounds around my mind.

If you are a silence writer and do not want any sounds, OmmWriter does let you turn all sounds off. But I really think the sounds are what make this writer stands out.

Now I am using OmmWriter on Mac and PlainText app for iPhone and iPad. Please share your opinion of what apps make you focus on writing :-D
